5 Tips On Setting Up Security Cameras In New Jersey

Post by admin

If you plan to set up security cameras at your place of business or even at your home, congratulations. You’re making a good choice.

In order to get the most out of your cameras, however, it’s important to keep these five tips in mind:

1) Explore the Must-Have Features You Need

This is going to be dependent upon your unique needs and will differ from business to business. Some may do fine with standard stationary cameras. Others may need IP cameras for the higher resolution they provide. You may consider a Solar powered camera NJ if you’ll be covering an outdoor area. And so on. Knowing your needs is the first step in making the right choice.

2) Indoor or Outdoor?

This choice makes a difference in a few ways. Outdoor cameras can serve as a great deterrent for break ins, but they can also be a magnet for vandalism, so they must be protected by being placed high up and possibly being further protected with wire mesh. Indoor cameras are better for lawsuit protection and capturing evidence. They won’t deter break ins, but they may deter shoplifting.

3) Understand The Legal Issues

It is legal for you to film on your property. New Jersey is a one party consent state, which means only one person involved in recorded doings must consent – and yes, you as the business owner count. It is also legal to film on public property, so it’s okay to point your cameras at the street. (It’s a common misconception that you need someone’s permission to film them. You do not. You only need permission if you’re going to use the footage for commercial purposes.) HOWEVER, if your cameras point onto private property such as a neighbor’s backyard, you’re in murky territory. Avoid that when possible.

4) Remember To Check Your Footage

Sometimes you’ll know when you need to check your footage on your Solar powered camera NJ, such as when something has been stolen or there was an injury on your property, but it’s a good idea to periodically check the footage no matter what. You can do a high speed scan that shouldn’t take long and may even uncover activity you didn’t know was taking place, such as employees skimming money or other issues.

5) See If The System Has Mobile Support

Many security camera systems these days have mobile support, meaning you can check the feed no matter where you are, right from your mobile phone. This is great if you travel a lot but still like to keep tabs on what’s going on back at your place of business. In many cases this will be a default feature, but not in all, so be sure to ask before you buy.
